About the Church

What is a church?

A church is a group of people who share a belief in the Lord Jesus Christ as their saviour. The church is not a building, though we usually meet for services in the chapel.

What sort of people go to church?

All sorts of people attend our services - infants to elderly. Anyone is welcome and no-one should feel out of place. You will find men, women, teenagers and children here. Many are committed Christians but some come because they want to find out what Christianity is all about. You don’t have to be a believer to go to church.

But why bother with church?

Most people think that there must be some sort of God. After all, it doesn't make sense that the universe just happened by accident. Someone must have designed it for it to be so nearly perfect. God made both it and us. Many people who think this do nothing else about it, or just guess what God is like and try to worship him their own way. Many are put off by all the evil in the world. They can’t see how there could be a God worth taking notice of when there is so much wrong in the world. But God has made himself known in the Bible. He has explained all we need to know about himself, about us and what he expects from us, and what he has done about sin and evil. There is no need for us to guess! So anyone who knows, deep down, that there is a living God, who will one day judge us, needs to make it a priority to find out more about him. One day it will be too late. Doesn't it make sense for such a person to meet with others whose purpose is to learn about God and meet with him? And that is what a church is.
